WHAT IS THE YMCA
ADVENTURE GUIDE PROGRAM?
The
Adventure Guide program is nationally sponsored by the YMCA to foster the tender bond between a father and child.
Formerly known as the Indian Guide program, it encourages a father and child to spend uninterrupted time together as members of a larger
group, building memories and bonds that last a lifetime. It is a rare opportunity for father and child to work and play side-by-side.
The
Adventure Princess program is for fathers and their daughters.
The
Adventure Guide program is for fathers and their sons.
Both programs are for kindergarten through third-grade kids.
A father and child joins a group composed of 8-12 father/child pairs. Each
group proceeds with a year of fun-filled experiences with guidance and direction from the YMCA and the leaders.
A father can have two or more daughters or two or more sons in the same Princess or Guide
group.
They usually meet once a month during the school year, at a time that is convenient for the dads of the
group. Meetings are rotated among the members' homes. There are also six camping trips during the school year. One of the camping trips is to the YMCA's Camp Cullen, where there are activities such as canoeing, horseback riding, archery, and riflery.
The
Adventure Guide and Princess programs have been active in the College Station and Bryan area for
eight years. All local groups are organized through the Cypress Creek YMCA in Houston.
The Cypress Creek YMCA is sponsoring a general information and registration pool party on
Sunday, August 30, 2008 at Adamson Lagoon from 5:30-7:30 pm. The entire family is welcome. All children should be accompanied by their father. Come to register or just find out more about the program. If you are unable to attend the pool party, please mail in your registration by September
1st. Click here for more information on the pool party.
